Information used to run the daily question
To limit repeat submissions, this website stores a random browser identifier in an essential cookie and stores a one-way, secret-keyed hash of the visitor's IP address for basic abuse prevention. The raw IP address is not stored in the responses table.
Your answer, the question, your selected country code and the time of submission are stored so that results can be calculated. You can correct the automatically suggested country before voting; the selected country is used for the results. Country identification may use third-party IP geolocation services (ipwho.is and, if necessary, ipapi.co), which receive the visitor's IP address. If country identification is unavailable, the response may be shown as Other / unknown.
IP-derived information can still be personal data under UK data protection law. Before launch, the site owner should add their contact details, lawful basis, retention period, hosting/geolocation provider details, and a process for privacy requests. This starter notice is not a substitute for a reviewed privacy notice.
Essential cookies are used to remember that a browser has answered today's question.
